Jay Asher, San Luis Obispo resident & author of 13 Reasons Why, is 'excited' to have Selena Gomez star in his novel turned film. The role is of a girl commits suicide, but before doing so, she records seven cassette tapes to be given to 13 people who played a role in her death. Asher told KSBY.com:
'As I was writing the book, actually, I had a movie in mind as I was setting up certain scenes. I just thought it would be a really powerful and intense movie. Then the book itself kind of took off & started getting some notice in Hollywood.'On Selena Gomez:
'I'm actually really excited to have her on there because the girl in the book starts off almost with Selena's image. A very happy, optimistic person, and then, through a chain of events, she descends to where she ends up taking her life.'
On changes for the movie: 'There are definitely some changes that have to be made because so much of the book is internal thoughts. So far, they've run all the ideas for changes by me & I've either approved them or just been amazed that I didn't think of that idea for the book.' He hopes some of the film will be shot in San Luis Obispo, because much of the book is set in an area just like it.
